Podcasts and Their Impact on STEM!

We exist in a day and age where any topic or hobby you can think of has accompanying podcasts. Podcasts can vary in style, subject, hosts, and more! If you’re interested in something, chances are high someone has made a podcast about it. But how does this apply to the world of STEM?

STEM From shows how podcasts are important in STEM

STEM focuses on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. STEM-themed podcasts typically tackle these focuses but can also be lighthearted or unserious in nature. It all depends! Either way, STEM podcasts are excellent resources for everyone, including people uninvolved in STEM careers. Podcasts are available on a myriad of platforms such as Youtube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more. Typically, they are free, but hosts commonly offer bonus content on sites like Patreon.

Where does you journey stem from podcast

Podcasts impact the world of STEM in three major ways. First, podcasts offer alternatives to mainstream media such as movies and shows that can be more closely curated, allowing limitless options for ideas. This can allow listeners to tailor their catalog to specific interests and subjects. Second, podcasts are quite accessible and rich with information, allowing self-education as an option for listeners who might be limited on resources. And last, podcasts can spark conversations and shape culture. For example, STEM related podcasts hosted by women or BIPOC help end stigmatization and relay the importance of diversifying the industry.

We at STEM From have our own podcast available on the aforementioned platforms, hosted by our founder Dr. Carina Minardi. In our podcast, she invites individuals from different backgrounds in the STEM community to speak about their STEM journeys and provide insight on the field. Titled Where Does Your Journey STEM From?, we currently have 32 episodes available to listen to with more to come after our current hiatus! Here are a few of our favorite episodes if you don’t know where to start:
