June is right around the corner and we at STEMFrom have some excellent events to keep an eye out for!
June 1st: FIRE End of the Year STEM 23-24 Expo
FIRENSBFJr--standing for Future Innovative Rising Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers Jr--is hosting a fun day of STEM workshops on Saturday, June 1st at Capitol Tech University in South Laurel, Maryland. While the workshop is catered towards 4th-12th graders, even adults can find fun in this event! The event will feature F.I.R.E's current student projects and allow guests to take part in several activities such as rocket building and launch, robot making, and more! Lunch will be provided for the guests. Additionally, guests will receive a free raffle ticket! The winner is eligible for multiple fun prizes!
June 4th: Circuit Queens Femmes In STEM Event
Held at Spokane Community College in Washington, this event focuses on empowering femmes and women in the field of electronics. Throughout the four-hour event, guests will tour the electronics department, program a robot, build circuits, network, and most importantly, learn the importance of gender diversity and finding career opportunities as femme-presenting individuals. This event is an excellent opportunity for network and career advice.
June 4th-7th: National Rural STEM Summit
Taking place in Tucson, AZ from June 4th-7th, the National Rural STEM Summit brings together the rural STEM community for many opportunities and activities. Participants can attend speeches, workshops, and network with others in the industry. The biggest aim of this summit is to give rural areas and residents a chance to improve and interact with one another in STEM context.
June 8th: KITSAP STEM Expo
This family event in Bremerton, Washington will take place at the Marvin Williams Recreation Center. The flyer promises fun for the whole family and an educational experience for all ages. The event will feature exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on activities--all for free!
June 13th: Storybook STEM
In Tumwater, Washington, Tumwater Parks and Recreation is hosting a Storybook STEM event! During the event, available to all ages but catered towards elementary school-aged children, two books related to STEM will be read. The two books are “We're Going on a Bear Hunt” & “I love Strawberries." Attendees will also complete an activity they can take home after the readings have ended!
June 20th-23rd: STEMNoire Annual Conference
STEMNoire's annual conference and holistic retreat will be landing in Washington D.C. on June 20th! STEMNoire's mission is to bring together black women and non-binary individuals to encourage a sense of community, promote collaboration and networking, and helping individuals' personal and professional missions. The programs available during the event are plentiful, including resources, presentations, addresses, workshops, and more. STEMNoire deems this lineup "necessary for resilience in STEM education and the workforce." This year's theme will be Empowering Excellence: Black Women Leading the STEM Renaissance. This shines a light on the black women in the STEM industry working hard to drive change and be heard.
June 25th: STEM Virtual Career & Grad Fair
This virtual event focuses on career and graduate program opportunities specifically regarding STEM.
June 26th: Explore More! in STEM: Our Solar System, Our Home
Held at the National Museum of African American History & Culture, the Explore More! in STEM series of events focuses on STEM concepts and African American culture plus history. This particular event will be delving into Solar System exploration, the concept of gravity, Black pioneers who furthered knowledge on space, and more.
