How it Started…

Giving Tuesday was launched in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y (92NY) in New York City in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. Created as a response to the consumer-focused shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the movement encourages people around the world to focus on generosity and community impact. Today, millions of individuals and organizations in more than 80 countries participate by donating, volunteering, mentoring, and supporting nonprofit organizations.

How To Celebrate…

  • Donating to nonprofit organizations
  • Volunteering in local communities
  • Mentoring students and young professionals
  • Supporting educational programs
  • Organizing community service projects
  • Collecting food, clothing, or school supplies
  • Participating in fundraising campaigns
  • Performing acts of kindness

STEM From’s Take

Our Perspective…

Giving Tuesday reminds us that knowledge is one of the greatest gifts we can share. Whether mentoring a student, volunteering at a science fair, donating STEM supplies, supporting scholarships, or introducing someone to a new career path, investing in education creates opportunities that can last a lifetime.

At STEM From, we believe generosity extends beyond financial contributions. Sharing time, expertise, encouragement, and career experiences helps inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, healthcare professionals, and innovators.

The Significance and Why We Care…

Communities grow stronger when people invest in one another. Supporting STEM education helps expand access to learning experiences, mentorship, technology, and career exploration for students from all backgrounds. Every contribution—whether through volunteering, teaching, or donating—can help remove barriers and open doors to future opportunities.

Giving Tuesday also demonstrates the power of collaboration. Lasting solutions to society’s challenges often come from people working together with a shared commitment to improving lives.
