How it Started…
World Science Day for Peace and Development was established by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2001 following the 1999 World Conference on Science held in Budapest, Hungary. The first official observance took place in 2002. The day was created to strengthen public awareness of science, encourage international scientific cooperation, and demonstrate how science contributes to peace, sustainable development, and the well-being of communities worldwide.
