How it Started

Ada Lovelace Day was founded in 2009 by British technology journalist and author Suw Charman-Anderson. The annual celebration was created to increase the visibility of women working in STEM by encouraging people to share stories of women whose work has made a difference in science and technology. The day honors Ada Lovelace (1815–1852), whose notes on Charles Babbage’s proposed Analytical Engine included what is widely considered the first published computer algorithm.
