How it Started

National Fossil Day was established by the National Park Service in 2010 as part of the National Fossil Day Partnership, a collaboration among federal agencies, museums, universities, and scientific organizations. The observance was created to promote public understanding of fossils, paleontology, and Earth’s geological history while encouraging stewardship of fossil resources.
