How it Started…
World Habitat Day was established by the United Nations in 1985, with the first observance held in 1986. The annual event raises awareness about the basic human need for adequate shelter and promotes sustainable urban development as cities continue to grow. Each year, the United Nations selects a theme that focuses on current housing and urban planning challenges around the world.
