How it Started

World Space Day was first launched in 1997 by aerospace company Lockheed Martin as an educational initiative to inspire students to explore careers in space science and engineering. Although its observance has evolved over the years and is celebrated in different ways around the world, the day continues to promote curiosity about space exploration, scientific discovery, and technological innovation. Schools, museums, science centers, and space organizations often use the occasion to encourage learning about astronomy and aerospace.
