How it Started…
The United Nations established the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer in 1994 to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer on September 16, 1987. The protocol brought countries together to phase out ozone-depleting chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Thanks to decades of scientific research, policy, and technological innovation, the ozone layer is gradually recovering.
