Choosing a lifetime career can be tricky. With so many variables, one may find themselves easily overwhelmed by such a decision.
Today we continue our new series, where we break down how to know if a career is the right choice for you! For this installment, we are going over benefits that might influence one’s career choice.
Insurance
Many but not all careers offer insurance coverage. It’s imperative to know the details of said coverage, though. Not all policies and companies will provide full coverage. It’s important to consider the following when offered insurance through a job:
- Is coverage full or partial (i.e. would doctor visits require co-pay)
- Does coverage span a wide berth of doctors (aka, is it limited or do many doctors accept it)
- Is medication covered under the insurance
- What are the conditions to enroll in insurance (i.e. six months at the job must be completed before insurance is offered)
Salary/Pay Grade
A career’s pay is crucial to survival. Therefore, it’s important to consider if benefits that apply to salary/pay, such as raises or bonuses, are included in a position.
PTO
PTO stands for Paid Time Off and allows an employee to be away from work, with the time gone compensated. This can be incredibly beneficial, but many careers do not offer it. If one does, it’s important to review any guidelines and stipulations to avoid penalization or termination.
