Welcome back to STEM From’s movie review series, a segment where I give thoughts on my favorite STEM-oriented or themed movies. Today, I’ll be talking about one of my favorite movies of all time: Alien.
Alien follows the Nostromo, a hauler spaceship full of workers. The workers awake from cryosleep, only to be thrust into an unexpected side mission. The side mission brings a malevolent, killing machine of a creature onto the ship, endangering the lives of everyone on board.
This film absolutely deserves its place in iconic cinema history. Everything from the gorgeous sets to the terrific ensemble of characters, all the way to the titular Alien’s design and presence, is invigorating. Sigourney Weaver is a standout as Ellen Ripley, who would become a cinema icon following the success of this film and later installments. All in all, the film is incredible. It’s not for the squeamish, though, so I would suggest skipping this one if you don’t like horror.
If you’ve seen Alien, let me know what you think of it in the comments! Stay tuned for the next movie review!
