Choosing a lifetime career can be tricky. With so many variables, one may find themselves easily overwhelmed by such a decision. Today we continue our new series, where we break down how to know if a career is the right choice for you! For this installment, we are going over diversity.
What is diversity?
Diversity is “the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.”
Why is diversity important?
No one human experience is the same. Diversity in workplaces allow more perspectives and, by extension, fosters creativity and problem-solving. If we rely on one demographic to control or dominate everything, we lose not only humanity, but also potential.
How do I know a company or organization is diverse?
Research is key. In this internet age, it’s incredibly easy to discover where a company or organization stands. Look at official social media pages, as videos can be indicative of who makes up the workforce, or even bigotry within current staff.
Can a company or organization become diverse?
Absolutely: but it requires effort and active practice. If a company continuously talks about diversifying staff, yet doesn’t take any action to do so, consider that a red flag. As aforementioned, other perspectives are crucial to improvements and creativity.
