Overall, this observances focuses on the planet’s reliance on healthy soil, sustainable management practices, and biodiversity. This year specifically highlights urban landscapes’ impact on soil. How we build atop soil can heavily impact it; i.e if soil beneath buildings is permeable and vegetated, it improves air quality, absorbs rainwater, and more.
