STEM Movie Review: Wall-E

STEM Movie Review Walle

Wall-E, directed by Andrew Stanton, follows a garbage-disposal robot on a future, uninhabitable Earth who lives a solitary life.

I watched this movie for the first time at the age of seven, and its immense impact on me is obvious to most people. It taught me to appreciate the planet more, and to understand the threats that come when humans mistreat it. It’s also helped me realize how important genuine human connection is, and how screens and technology cannot replace that (no matter how hard it tries.) Wall-E is more relevant today than ever, a simultaneously fascinating and depressing fact.

Wall-E has everything from flowy, flawless animation to intriguing plots and messages. Despite there being very little dialogue in the entire film, it conveys the beautiful span of human emotion, even through the nonhuman protagonists. It I would honestly call it a masterpiece. I also love how hopeful the ending is, a common hope that humanity can change and change for good. It feels semi-comforting in these strange times!

If you enjoy animation and Sci-Fi, Wall-E is likely right up your alley! I think it’s an excellent piece that promotes environmentalism, humanity, and change. If you’ve seen Wall-E, let me know what you thought of it in the comments!
